For a long time in Japan, gastrography of X-ray have
been used for screening gastric cancer.
At that examination, spasmolytics are not used.
In a few percent of subjects, the barium will flow
into the small intestine within a few seconds. Such people frequently have
diarrhea.

The gastro-colonic reflex is the theory that the small
intestine and the proximal colon move by expanding of stomach.
However, before the stomach inflates, the person whom
barium flows in the small intestine has diarrhea. On the other hand, in a
person with severe constipation, barium does not flow into the duodenum, and
barium stagnates for a long time in the stomach, despite the stomach bloating
sufficiently.

These phenomena contradict the gastro-colonic reflex theory.
This is evidence only understand to Japanese
researchers.
Symptoms of IBS-D are alleviated with suppressing gastric movement by peppermint. On the other hand, non-absorbable polyethylene glycol
is effective for constipation.
For IBS-D, semi-solidification of water might be effective.
