Yoshiharu Uno

1990年代、Dr. Schlemperと会ったことがある。
日本語が日本人と同じレベルで驚いたのを覚えている。その当時、彼は日本と欧米の間に、早期がん（胃癌、大腸癌）の病理組織診断に違いがあることを研究していた。その問題については、私が1994年に論文で記したのが始まりであるが、その私の論文を彼が引用していない事に私は憤慨し、その研究のプライオリティーは、私にあることを言うために、学会場で彼に話しかけたのである。しかし、あまりに流暢な日本語にびっくりして、私は文句を言うどころか、顔を赤らめて、「あなたの研究は素晴らしい」など褒め称えたのであった。そして、その後、私は彼に自分の論文を送った。

そして、彼から返事が来た。

ちょうど、その頃、経済のグローバリズムの名のもとに海外のガン保険会社が日本に盛んに進出してきたため、私は、もしかしたら、彼は海外の保険会社から派遣された医師ではないか？と考えたことがあった。というのは、日本の病理診断は、海外よりも早期がんと診断することが多いので、その早期がんを癌として扱うかどうかが、海外の保険会社にとってネックであったためである。

しかし、その後も彼は、世界と日本の病理学者の橋渡しとなり、世界的な一致を目指して、コンセンサス・ミーティングの中心的な存在となった。

その後、彼は欧米のどこかの著名な大学の教授になっているのだろうと思っていた。

しかし、彼は、日本にとどまり、そして、現在、福岡市のインターナショナル唐人町クリニックの院長をしている。

彼には、一流医学雑誌にアクセプトされる高度な才能があるため、

今後も、世界的な研究論文を数多く執筆して欲しいと私は願っている。
