104th Meeting of Japan Society of Gastroenterology in 2018
Date: 19 April, 2018
Place: Keio Plaza Hotel, Tokyo
Panel discussion 3: Long-term
results after eradication of Helicobacter pylori
Abstracts: Journal of Japanese
Socirty of Gastroenterology 2018; 115: A80-82.
PD3-2
Risk factor of reflux
esophagitis after eradication of H. pylori
Yoshida Y, et al. Matsuyama Red Cross Hospital
Number of subjects:
1575
Observation
period: 8.5 years
The rate of newly developing reflux esophagitis in the patient after eradication of H. pylori is 10.1%. Risk factors were sex (male), obese, and hiatal hernia.
PD3-3
Changes of gastritis after eradicating Helicobacter pylori: relationship with age
Raku H, et al. Okayama University
Number of subjects:
300
Observation
period: 2-3 years
In the group of young people with low grade atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia, grade of gastritis was improved.
PD3-4
Risk assessment of
gastric cancer after eradicating H. pylori;
Endoscopic atrophic gastritis or
histological intestinal metaplasia: Which is useful?
Niikura R, et al. Tokyo University
Number of subjects:
655
At the average 6.8 after eradication, in 25 patients, new gastric cancer was occured. Histological intestinal metaplasia was related with the risk of developing gastric cancer than endoscopic findings.
PD3-5
Irregular gastric mucosa which occurred after eradicating H.pylori, makes it difficult to detect new gastric cancer
Yamazaki T, et al. Tokyo Jikei
Medical School
Due to eradicating H. pylori, endoscopic findings diversify, making diagnosis of gastric cancer might be difficult.
PD3-6
Newly Gastric cancer after
eradicating H. pylori often occurs in the intermediate zone
Yagi K, et al. Niigata University
PD3-7
Characteristics of new gastric
cancer after eradication of pylori
Satoh T, et al. Yokohama City University
Number of cancers:
201 of gastric cancer after eradication of pylori
Observation
period: 33 month
The morphological features of
gastric cancer after eradicationg H.pylori were small and depressive. Gastric
cancer after eradication occurred statistically significantly more than
non-eradicating group.
PD3-8
Characteristics of gastric
cancer after eradicating H. pylori
Nakano K, et al. Cancer Institute Ariake
Hospital of JFCR
Gastric cancer after eradicating H. pylori is increasing. 152 patients with early gastric cancer who were eradicated H.pylori were treated within 2.5 years in their institution. They were found on average 4.5 years after eradicating H. pylori. The morphological features of gastric cancer after eradicationg H.Pylori were small, red, and depressive. The size of gastric cancers which found after 10 years or more were larger than within 10 years.

Comment by Uno
Gastric cancer after eradicating H pylori is increasing in Japan (PD3-8). Such new cancer is very difficult to find (PD3-5). Even in endoscopists of high-level research facilities, this problem is serious (PD3-5,PD3-6, PD3-7, PD3-8). This problem is an issue for the entire Japanese citizen. Due to a lack of information, patients tend to believe that gastric cancer cannot occur after H. pylori eradication without a follow-up. What should we do to save the patient? By accepting the truth and pursuing the cause, we can open a new door.
