Reviewer #2:
This study by Uno attempts to evaluate the gas patterns of irritable bowel syndrome and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth following ingestion of lactulose.

The author claims that the aim of the study is to determine the time for increase in abdominal gas following the ingestion of lactulose and possibly differentiate SIBO and IBS.

The study does raise some interesting observations that lactulose breath test might not be an accurate diagnostic modality to diagnose small bowel bacterial overgrowth and that positivity of lactulose breath test might be based on dose of lactulose administered. It could also be speculated that some of IBS symptoms could be related to type of carbohydrate ingested and not related to small bowel bacterial overgrowth.

I hope that this study will contribute to people all over the world.
